Report Of Human Unity (Manav Ekta) Day Samagam 2009

This year the Sant Nirankari Mission, MN branch observed Manav Ekta Day in the memory of Baba Gurbachan Singh Ji in the main hall of Durham Apartments, Edina; a prominent locality of MN.  The event was held on April 26, 2009 from 4:30 to 7:30pm.

For the last few weeks, several members of the MN branch enthusiastically spread the word about the samagam event.  Mass media was adopted; such as flyers, USP mail, newspaper, radio, emails, internet, as well as through word of mouth to make people aware of the event.  In spite of rain drizzling all day long, a good gathering of local saints and a large number of invited people, some of whom were Americans, attended the samagam.  The hall was nicely decorated.  The 75-seated hall was full beyond our expectations.  A good system of sound, video, and projection was arranged.  The side wall by the entrance to the hall, where the Mission banner was hanging, a publication stall comprising of the Mission literature, photos, DVDs, and CDs was set up.  Behind the stage, a little portion of the hall up to the entrance of the kitchen at the end corner of the hall was left unoccupied.  The stage consisted of a secretary’s chair, a standing microphone for speakers and a chair before a pillar to serve as the dais.  Over the stage stood the Mission’s banner from a wall to the pillar with Satguru Baba Hardev Singh Ji Maharaj’s photo.  The other side of the pillar was for a projector to display videos at Vichar time.

The program started with the recitation of the Avtar Bani.  The stage was conducted by Rev. Rinki Bhatia.  Rev. Rajnish was seated on the dais.  English was predominantly used by the secretary and the speakers throughout the program.  The first speaker was Rev. Rajanbir Arneja who spoke on the Mission’s principles of love and universal brotherhood; clarifying the Mission as not being a religion, he stressed on the purpose of life of knowing reality of man’s own being.  Other young speakers, comprising of Rev. Sonu, Rev. Simmi, Rev. Rinki, and the elder speakers Rev. Kishan Paul, Rev. Khanna, and Rev. Kuljit came forward to throw light on the life history of Baba Gurbachan Singh Ji, his principles, and how he spread the Mission abroad in U.K., U.S., Canada, and other countries.  The local saints, singers, and poets also contributed their parts.  The Americans named Jerry and Gail who also spoke, appreciated the way the spiritual message of love and universal brotherhood was being conveyed.  Rev. Rajnish who addressed the congregation in English stressed that we should follow the teachings of the Mission by completely surrendering and dedicating our minds and hearts.  We should not indulge in luxuries of material objects.

These speeches were followed by a documentary on the divine journey of Baba Gurbachan Singh Ji and a slide show of the Mussorie Conference and others.  This was projected on a big screen.  A discourse by Satguru Baba Hardev Singh Ji Maharaj was also displayed afterwards for full view of the audience.

A community meal was served and the 61st samagam DVDs and literature were distributed.
